Writer's Block: Simply wonderful

It's often said that the simple things in life are the most precious. What small pleasures make you the happiest?

Warmth, softness, cats purring, and good smells are the simple things I like best.

The largest component of my obsession with knitting is that I love the textures of good yarn. I love the way it feels sliding through my fingers, the changes from yarn to fabric, the feel of different stitches.

I live in New England, but I was born in the deep South. I feel much more comfortable being too warm than too cold. Piles of hats and blankets keep the chill away over the winter, but in the Summer I thrive.

Animals have always been part of my life. I have made my closest connections with cats. To have a cat deign to consider one worthy of attention is a feat all its own. But the purring, the motorboat loudness of a cat in snuggly bliss is the most soothing sound/feeling ever. It makes everything else easier to swallow.

Smells can be tricky, especially with memory associations (and strange olfactory translation errors as I often have). I have tons of incense and candles and oils. My favorite oil is a blend I made from amber, sandalwood, and patchouli. I am also a fan of the smell of animals. Rich and musky, animal fur often smells like warmth and softness, some of my other favorite things. One day I want a farm with alpacas, sheep, goats, and bunnies. I would spend hours in the barns snuggling with them and brushing them.
